Created by Tony Jordan and first broadcast in 2004, Hustle follows a group of con artists who specialise in "long cons" – extended deceptions which
require greater commitment, but which return a higher reward than simple confidence tricks. The direction of the piece is very new-wave with exciting camerawork and colourful cinematography. The director of "Hustle Seasons 1-6 DVD" has taken a very modern view and adaptation of great con and heist movies. Hustle has Adrian Lester, the supercool young black actor who watched John Travolta eat and screw in Primary Colors, as Mickey Stone, a Zen master of “the long con. And Robert Vaughn, a touch grayer but otherwise still Napoleon Solo, plays Mickey’s mentor Albert Stroller, a habitué of the hotels, casinos, and clubs where the likeliest marks are found. It is always a pleasure to witness Jordan’s excellent recreation of natural and flowing dialogue, though there did appear to be one exception with Robert Vaughn’s unconvincing “I know everything” line. |
